Just a note about perpetual licenses. Most likely you really don't own MicroStation. I haven't read the licensing agreement lately but here is my recollection. Back somewhere around 1998 if you wanted an upgrade you needed to subscribe to Bentley CSP. When you signed that it stated. "Agreement shall super supersede and replace all license agreements. The The Grant of License stated "limited nontransferable nonexclusive right and license to use"... so you no longer owned the product. You only have the right to use it. I remember this because I had very grave concerns about it. They were shifting from a model of you know what your going to get before you pay to you get what you get after you pay. Additionally you gave up ownership. The big difference being "nontransferable". You can't sell it or transfer the license. In fact a friend of mine changed his company from a Sub-S Corp to an LLC and Bentley would not transfer his license to the new company.
