Applies To Product(s): SELECTserver Gateway Version(s): 09.01.00.26 Environment: Windows 7, Windows 8.x, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016 Area: Installation / Configuration Subarea: N/A Original Author: Jeremy Hoesly, Bentley Technical Support Group Introduction Some older Bentley products from 2004 and earlier such as MicroStation V8 2004 or MicroStation J cannot talk directly with the latest version of SELECTserver. A backward compatibility environment called the SELECTserver Gateway is provided to license such products. The following support solution shows how to download, install, and configure a SELECTserver Gateway for use with V8 2004 and earlier Bentley products. Steps to Accomplish Download the SELECTserver Gateway Component The SELECTserver Gateway component should be installed in one of two places: On a server accessible by workstations on the local network - This option is preferable if multiple workstations with V8 2004 or earlier Bentley products are used in the office. Directly on a workstation - This option is preferable if only one or two workstations with V8 2004 or earlier Bentley products require access or if the workstations are laptops which routinely must use the products apart from the network. The component is available free of charge and can be downloaded from Bentley's Software Fulfillment Center . The following support solution provides general download instructions . Specifically in Step 4, please type "SELECTserver" in the search field in the upper left, and choose SELECTserver Gateway Service from the results list that appears. On the following screen, please click the All Download link. Choose one of the highlighted SELECTserver Gateway listings, depending on whether the computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. Most computers and servers are running 64-bit operating systems now. Click the green icon in the Download column to obtain an installer. Install the SELECTserver Gateway Component Once downloaded, run the file, and click the Next button. Acknowledge the legal agreement by selecting the checkbox and clicking the Next button. Change the installation location, if necessary. In most cases, the default location is sufficient. Click the Next button to proceed. Options on the SELECTserver Setup screen generally should not be changed. Click the Next button to proceed. Enter the server name and site activation key for a SELECTserver. These fields will be populated automatically if license settings have been configured for another Bentley product on the same machine. Otherwise, the settings can be obtained from the License Management Tool on another machine. Click the Install button to proceed. If running the installer as a user, User Access Control will prompt for administrator access. Click the Finish button to close the installer. To start using the Gateway immediately, the Bentley SELECTserver Gateway service must be manually started following installation. Please use the following steps: Open the Windows Start menu or Start screen. Do a search for services.msc. Select Services from the results list. Select Bentley SELECTserver Gateway in the list that appears. Click the Start link as shown in the screenshot below. Note: The Bentley SELECTserver Gateway service is configured to automatically start when the machine is rebooted. The manual starting process is only required following an installation of SELECTserver Gateway. Configure products to use the SELECTserver Gateway Change the LIC files used by your V8 2004 or earlier Bentley products to contain a single line: SERVER=GatewayName Replace GatewayName with the computer name that is running your SELECTserver Gateway. See the wiki " Pointer File Explained for Pre- XM Products " for further information on how to create, name or save the local file. Configuring SELECTserver Gateway to utilize multiple site activation keys By default, the Gateway points to a single site activation key. It listens to requests on port 3998 and routes them to the site activation key configured in the License Management Tool included with the Gateway. However, the Gateway can be configured to listen on multiple ports and route to different site activation keys. To do this, first open the SELECTserver.config file located in the SELECTserver installation directory which is usually: C:\Program Files\Bentley\SELECTserver Scroll to the very bottom and uncomment the SSConfiguration block so that it looks like the screenshot below: Specify a default license pool for port 3998. Then write additional lines for each of the site activation keys. The port numbers themselves are arbitrary, but just ensure that the port numbers you choose are not in use by other programs. Once finished, save changes, and restart the Bentley SELECTserver Gateway service. To use a specific site activation key on the client end, specify the port number for the desired one in the LIC file.
