Applies To Product(s): SELECTserver Version(s): 09.00.00.xxx Environment: N/A Area: Installation / Configuration Subarea: SQL Management Original Author: Jeremy Hoesly, Bentley Technical Support Group Error or Warning Message The Message Center on the SELECTserver administration site periodically displays Usage Log Processing failures with the following message: Error Truncating Usage Data Explanation SELECTserver 9 introduced a Data Retention feature that can remove old usage data after a certain time period, limiting the growth of a license database. However, this feature has proven ineffective, producing truncation errors when invoked during usage log processing instead. While the errors do not affect the operation of SELECTserver itself, they indicate that the removal of old usage data failed. How to Avoid Option 1: Apply a SQL script to fix the feature. For users comfortable with database management, a SQL script is available that can be applied to the license database itself to correct the feature by performing the following steps: Download the following SQL script provided on Bentley Communities. Please note that you must be signed into Bentley Communities to see the Download button. A header will appear with a sign in link otherwise. Apply the script using SQL Server Management Studio, a free utility provided by Microsoft. A download link for a standalone version is provided in the link above if needed. Option 2: Disable the Data Retention feature. For those uncomfortable with database management, the error can be avoided by simply turning off the Data Retention feature by performing the following steps: Select Server Settings from the Administration drop-down menu on the SELECTserver administration site. Locate the Data Retention section at the very bottom of the page. Select the "Retain ALL usage data" radio button. Click the Apply button in the lower right.
